Crazy SUMMER – Convention and website sale edition!

It has been awhile since we have been able to post.  For that, we apologize.  That being said, we just wanted to quickly share what has been going on in the world of the PaperFilms team.

First, Amanda and Jimmy were extremely lucky to take part in two amazing conventions in Italy this past month.  They were able to meet some incredible fans from abroad and visit some great convention locations and sites.  Between the conventions, some tourist events were planned and enjoyed.  All in all, great experience.  Unfortunately, right before the team was to return home, Amanda suffered an accident and required some emergency surgery.  She is doing better but a bit delayed with recovery first and foremost.  Knowing Amanda, she’ll come back more stronger than ever.  We just have to pace her.  :)

That being said, the team has some great projects that are coming out soon from a great number of partners.  First, in a couple of weeks, BOOM will be releasing THE BIG CON JOB in trade form:

(Or you can go to our Store site and purchase a signed version!)

Next, we have the final issue of the captivating SUPERZERO series arc coming out this week.  We encourage you to swing by your local retailer to grab not only the sixth issue but also grab the first 5 books to keep pace with the book.

Additionally, from 1First Comics, Justin Gray, Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner bring you DELETE.  The third issue just came out and the story is gaining some great traction and the incredible John Timms is killing on the art so please, make sure you are checking out this series!

Finally, there are several Harley Quinn titles that will be coming out.  The team of Frank Tieri, Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner have a great story for the whole gang in Harley Quinn and Her Gang of Harleys.  Add that to the upcoming relaunch of Harley Quinn for DC, these are some great times to be following both books.

As a way to say thanks for the exciting times, we’ve setup a coupon for everyone to use for a whopping 20% off all store items from the team!  That’s right, enter SUMMER at checkout from now till 7/24 and you’ll get a great deal on all our products.  That’s right, want a signed print from Amanda?  Great retailer variants of Harley Quinn?  Signed exclusives from the team?  You bet, we’ve got them.  And best of all, you get them with cash back in your pockets.  We ship all the products right to you and the money goes directly to the team.  This allows more projects to be funded.  Best of all, they go right to you.

So head on over to the store and cash in:

As always, we can’t thank you enough for your support and love.  Truly humbling to all of us!

Darwyn Cooke

The world has lost a legend folks.  It is with great sadness that we share the loss of Darwyn Cooke’s passing this weekend and without a doubt, feel the emptiness in our hearts from the joy this man gave us.  When Darwyn entered the scene in what seems like just yesterday, he did it full throttle and with force.  As the years moved on, everyone at PaperFilms was blessed enough to be welcomed into the circle of joy that Darwyn created.  His passion, his energy, his caring and his love of comics.

When it was time for the laughable Canadian to take up some sort of residence in the US, thankfully he decided to live within minutes of Jimmy and Amanda in Florida.  Yes, the irony of another Canadian snowbird wasn’t lost on Darwyn. From his late night bar talks with Frank laughing and arguing about…..well, anything.  His love of old movies and deep conversations with Justin.  His love of anything old, humorous and twisted that he could share with Amanda.  The undying connection with Jimmy, like two brothers who found each other decades and instantly connected.  Each one of us was touched by Darwyn and we will never be the same.  We would be typing for years with all of the stories that we have had with Darwyn so we hope you understand that we want to be selfish and keep some for ourselves.

Darwyn was also one of the most passionate supporters of any project the PaperFilms team did.  Jumping in and helping on covers, advice, interiors or pinups, we never had to worry about him wanting to be involved.  It is that spirit and love that drove Darwyn in comics and in life.  Do it for yourself.  Do it as a creator.  We wanted to share one of the short stories that we swindled Darwyn into adding to our Creator Owned Heroes line.  Four pages we said.  What can you do in four pages?  He drops bombs of greatness on us.

We want to share somewhere you can help remember Darwyn for a good cause:  Go.  Help.  Share.

So take some time…..heck, take a lot of time and enjoy anything he touched.  From New Frontier to Parker to Before Watchmen to Jonah Hex, anything.  Sit and soak it in.  Raise a glass to his honor.  We’ve witnessed greatness.  He was a champion.  He was an inspiration.  He was a comedian.  He was a friend.  More importantly…..he was family.

We love you Dar…..there will never be another.

HYPE – PaperFilms 9th Kickstarter event

The PaperFilms team of Justin Gray, Jimmy Palmiotti, Amanda Conner and Paul Mounts have just launched their 9th, that’s right, 9TH Kickstarter campaign in HYPE.

HYPE is a 52 page action packed thriller with heart that offers a twist of the traditional superhero genre. It is a graphic novel written by Justin Gray & Jimmy Palmiotti featuring the art of JAVIER PINA and  and ALESSIA NOCERA and design and lettering by BILL TORTOLINI.

Noah Haller is HYPE, a last resort secret weapon for the United States Military, a man who can only be awake for a single hour on any given day. The genetic and medical enhancements that give him his superhuman abilities force him to undergo complete cellular regeneration – like being rebuilt or reborn every 23 hours. Hype is a wonderfully flawed character. His massive intellect lacks experience, context and nuance. He is initially like a computer full of information and capable of solving complex problems, but lacking in emotion and abstract thought to solve small ones.

Hype responds to sensory aspects of his environment with indifference. He has attention to detail but misses the “big picture” and social cues.Being awake only one hour a day leaves very little time to cultivate an emotional relationship with anyone including his handlers. That changes when he meets Amanda Marr, a brilliant scientist and psychologist hired to help Hype find a balance between being super and being human.Unfortunately for Hype and Amanda, his training is cut short when a shadowy terrorist group is poised to unleash a deadly pathogen that threatens to destabilize the world governments.

We’d love to see you involved in the campaign!
